Gymnastics at West Sussex Barbell

Class focus was returning once more to handstands and handstand walking followed by dips. The format of the class has slowly morphed from multilple movements to two, with a short wod at the end. Additional time to focus on fundamentals allows us to progress further.
The wod was an amrap for 5 minutes of 15 burpees, 15 pike sit-ups and 15 boxjumps.

Warmup/mobilise/lift or gymnastic skill.

30 seconds work, 30 seconds rest of pressups continued for 12 minutes.

An ideal position for the pressup see the hands directly beneath the shoulder and the elbow tucked into the flank. If the shoulder is healthy and has a normal range of motion this ideal positioning is attainable but, as we sometimes see the mobility is compromised and we have to adapt the position and scale. Here in the picture we see a closer grip which proves to be more comfortable and allows the workout to be performed. It’s worth noting that the elbows are still tucked in, avoiding stress in the rotators.
